Sierra Snow A Welcome Sight After It Creates Traffic Nightmares

TRUCKEE (CBS13) — Snow from a recent storm has people in the Sierra ecstatic to see a sight they haven't seen in years.

In Truckee, at least six inches of snow fell over the past 24 hours, and people couldn't be happier.

Matt Orebaugh says he can't remember the last time Truckee saw this much widespread snow.

"It's been awhile," he said. "It's been probably close to 4, 4 and a half years since we've had this amount of snow."

The storm that blew through packed a punch some foreign visitors weren't expecting after years of drought headlines.

"People say OK California is—how do you say—dry, dry, no water, no, I don't think so," said Ethan Tang, who is visiting from China.

Bay Area resident Dan Ludwid knew better when he saw the forecast. He and his family left on Monday well ahead of the storm. He says it takes a bit more planning, but in the end, it's much better than getting stuck in traffic.

"This is our reward," he said. "I skied yesterday at Northstar, it was bad weather but it was still skiing."
