Weekly College Football Q&A: Thanksgiving Weekend

Ah YES, its FINALLY here, the weekend that separates family members more so than politics or the loaning of yard equipment, Rivalry weekend! The weekend where lifelong friends stop talking to each other because UCLA covered the spread. Where teams play for bragging rights and an oil can, a boot, and a keg of nails! (OK, the annual Cincinnati-Louisville "Keg of nails" game isn't this weekend, but man what a cool trophy) Here are Cody's musings on this weekend rivalry games including the GREATEST RIVALRY OF ALL TIME...THE IRON BOWL!

OK, SMART GUY GO AHEAD AND REGALE US WITH IRON BOWL TALES

I'm SO not making this up: My grandmother (a HUGE Bama fan) didn't speak to me for three years because I went to Auburn. I call those the, "Happy Years!" The joke was on her because I only went to Auburn because I received something thing the mail that said, "You have been accepted to Auburn University" and I had never applied. I figured it was a sign.

ARE YOU COMPLETELY SURE SHE QUIT TALKING TO YOU BECAUSE YOU WENT TO AUBURN AND NOT BECAUSE OF SOMETHING ELSE?

Well, she wasn't really happy with my taste in music or clothing, but it was mostly the Alabama/Auburn thing.

WHO YOU GOT?

Oregon over Oregon Sate, The Fightin' Harbaughs (Michigan) over Ohio State, UCLA to squeak by USC, if Luke Falk is healthy, I like the Cougars to win the Apple Cup, and finally...AUBURN OVER ALABAMA in an insane upset!

REALLY AUBURN?

I'm still basking in the afterglow that was the 2013 Iron Bowl, after that game I firmly believe that Auburn can win ANY game AND that unicorns can fly.

IF YOU SAY THE IRON BOWL IS THE GREATEST RIVALRY GAME, WHAT IS THE SECOND BEST?

That Civil War in Oregon is pretty close, although...this is going to sound a lil' weird but the 2nd best rivalry might just be the annual "Monon (pronounced MOE-non) Bell" game. Wabash has taken on DePauw 122 times, the winning team gets to take home a 300 lb bell. A few years back a buddy of mine thought my endless proselytizing about the Iron Bowl was "cute" and took me to the Monon Bell game, it was AMAZING. We left Indianapolis and drove about as far as one could go and still be in the state. Then we walked forever on some railroad tracks to the stadium-watched a bunch of non-scholarship guys play like there was no tomorrow and then listened to crowd go crazy after winning team rang the bell. Accept for all the walking, it was the perfect Saturday of football in the Midwest.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Yes, WAAAAAAAR EAGLE!
