Cyber Monday Like Any Other Day At Amazon's Tracy Fulfillment Center
TRACY (CBS13) — Cyber Monday is the busiest day for online retailers and Amazon may be shipping faster than Santa and his reindeer.
It's quiet outside of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Tracy, but inside you'll need some earplugs as workers busily full orders from a major shopping weekend.
Tony Phe's in charge of inventory and he loves it, even on his first Cyber Monday.
"The moment I put it in—boom. On the website. You can buy it right then and there," he said.
Everything on the site offered by Amazon is at the Tracy center. Amazon hired thousands of seasonal employees this year and used thousands of robots to help speed up the process.
"There are cases where we're shipping in minutes now rather than hours," said general manager Calvin Downes.
It's a system that Phe says makes his job exciting and appreciative. He's also a regular Amazon customer.
"I got it in two days and I know why I got it in two days—because of the way I work and the rest of this plant works," he said.
Cyber Monday pulls in the most sales, but employees say it's not much different from a regular day at work.
Many seasonal hires hope to stay all year.
There's no special training for Cyber Monday, and employees say there's no pressure to do their job differently.
