Boy, 13, Arrested For Driving Stolen Car While Drunk

FRESNO (CBS13) - Three teenagers are suspected of stealing a car and taking it for a joyride in Fresno late Friday night.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, a deputy had just exited Highway 99 at Ashlan Avenue when he heard screeching tires. Looking in his rear-view mirror, the deputy saw five people running away from a Honda Accord that had spun out of control.

The group had gotten away for the time being, but deputies soon converged on the area and set up a perimeter.

Within a half an hour, three were found hiding in a railyard nearby.

Deputies interviewed the teens and noticed that one of them - a 13-year-old boy who the first deputy saw bolting from the driver's seat of the stolen car - had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. A California Highway Patrol officer then tested the boy and found him to be intoxicated.

The boy and two other teens, a 17-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, have been arrested and are facing charges of vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. The 13-year-old boy is also facing DUI charges.
