A's Add Relievers Madson, Axford
The Oakland Athletics announced on Friday that they have signed both Ryan Madson and John Axford to multi-year deals.
The signings will improve an Athletics bullpen which was one of the worst in baseball last season.
Madson, a former closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, was outstanding as the set-up man for the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals in 2015. He posted a career low ERA of 2.13 last season. The right-handed reliever will receive $22 million over the next three years.
Axford, another reliever with closer type stuff, signed for two years and $10 million. He spent last season with the Colorado Rockies where he posted 25 saves. His best season was with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2011 when he posted 46 saves and a 1.95 era.
