Two Dead, 7 Injured After SUV With California Plates Rolls On Utah Freeway

SALT LAKE CITY (CBS/AP) - Police say a woman and child were killed and six other people are in critical condition after an SUV rollover on Interstate 70 in Utah.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce says nine people were in the SUV when the driver over-corrected and rolled down an embankment east of Green River on Wednesday afternoon. Seven passengers were ejected.

One passenger was flown to a hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado, and five others were taken there by ambulance. The other surviving passenger was flown to a Price, Utah hospital.

Royce says the crash is a "tragic accident" involving multiple children. He says the vehicle has California license plates.
According to Rice, evidence shows some seat belts were used, but it appears that there were more passengers than seat belts.

Utah Highway Patrol tells KSTU-TV in Salt Lake City weather does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol also was not a factor.

The identities of the passengers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
