Parents Scramble As Citrus Heights School Suddenly Shuts Down Over Christmas Break
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) — Parents are scrambling after a school announced it will be shutting down before it was supposed to return from Christmas break.
The joy of the holiday season has turned into a jolt for dozens of families who received a surprise email on Sunday from the founder of West Pioneer Academy in Citrus Heights.
"Dear WPA families, It is with great sadness that I am emailing you to inform you that we are forced to close the school operations effective December 31, 2015 … This decision was very difficult to make and I have grown to love each and every student and family we have had the pleasure of teaching and knowing."
Now parents are left scrambling to find a new place for their children to learn.
Nick Loret de Mola is a former parent at the school who pulled his child out last year, fearing its instability.
"There are a lot of people who are going to be looking to get their kids enrolled out of nowhere," he said.
He says the school's announced closure should have included resources for where parents can turn now.
"'Here are some contacts at the school districts;' anything to help these parents out," he said. "Because it's tough it's vacation time. No ones at the office, they don't have anyone to call to find out where their kids are going to go to school on Monday."
The school marquee still ready "Happy Holidays," and signs on the campus advertise specials on enrollment. the founder said there was no good timing for the closure as enrollment was down and she ran out of money.
