Video Captures Known Gang Member Nearly Running Over Police Officer During Probation Search

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — Police are searching for a known gang member who nearly ran over an officer during a probation search.

Marysville Police say a video shows Andrew David Hicks, 23, at a Marysville gas station trying to escape.

Hicks is on probation and now on the run after dragging an officer to the ground and nearly running her over.

"My first reaction was I can't believe she came out with a minor injury on her leg," said Lt. Jason Garringer.

He calls it the most extreme assault on an officer his department has seen, yet officer Leticia Reusser managed to survive with a slight injury.

"She could have been trapped under the car, there's a whole bunch of different scenarios that could have went different ways," he said.

Surveillance video shows Reusser walk to the truck for a welfare check after a clerk contacted police. The exchange quickly turned tense when Reusser ran Hicks' ID and discovered his criminal past.

"When she asked him to exit the vehicle for a probation search, that's when things started to go bad from there," she said. "He actually backs up and he traps her into the open door and the driving compartment."

Reusser did manage to try and grab the steering wheel to try to get control of it, but she wasn't able to do it.

But the suspect chose a spot under a surveillance camera to carry out his crime.

"There's a likely chance if he is contacted by law enforcement, he could very possibly try and do something similar or worse," Garringer said.

Police say the white Chevrolet pickup has a license plate of 80538S1 and the suspect is considered very dangerous.
