Family, Friends Remember Del Oro High Football Player Killed In Crash

LOOMIS (CBS13) – He just celebrated a football championship. Now students and parents are remembering his life.

Ronny Andrews, an 18-year-old Del Oro High School student, was killed after crashing his car into a tree off Park Drive in Rocklin Saturday night.

His friend, the passenger, was badly injured.

"They were just driving, all of a sudden – just that quick – something can happen," said another friend Ross Strieder.

Strieder visited the friend at the hospital on Sunday. He recalls what his friend says happened moments after the crash.

"He just closed his eyes started praying," Strieder said. "You're like watching your close friends losing his life that quick, knowing that you're not going to ever see him again."

Rocklin police say the car hit a curb and lost control.

The surviving friends' father is at a loss. He says the boys were on their way to celebrate a birthday at a friend's house, up the street.

"Ronny had a great heart. He wanted to get out and explore. He wanted to become more," Strieder said.

Ronny played for the Del Oro football team and had ambitions to go to the military after graduation, his friends say.

"He was very gentile, he was a big boy," said Fatima Galindo, Ronny's mother.

An online fundraising account that's been set up for Ronny Andrews has already raised close to $7,000.

School officials say counselors will be available for grieving students when school returns after the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
