Heavy Rainfall, High Winds Expected Across Our Region Today

It is pouring out there, and it's going to be a soaked Tuesday morning commute throughout the Sacramento area. Not only that, but the winds have kicked in.

Rain totals of .50" to .75" are likely by early Tuesday afternoon. A wind advisory is in effect from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.

South wind gusts from 40-50 mph with locally higher gusts are possible.

A wind advisory means that wind gusts of 40 mph or stronger are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for small cars and high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

A winter storm warning is in effect in the high country from 6 a.m. to midnight Tuesday. The main impact is travel difficulties and delays. Chain controls are likely throughout this evening.

The locations affected are Interstate 80 over Donner Pass, Highway 50 over Echo Summit and Highway 88 over Carson Pass.

Snow accumulations range from 6" to 12" above 6,000 feet. Snow could accumulate up to 18" over higher peaks.
