Former Sacramento Players Have A Shot At Super Bowl 50

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — There are now just four teams left vying for the chance to play on Super Bowl Sunday, and we're taking a look at two players who suited up in Sacramento who are among the survivors.

You don't have to go back far into the archives to find the high school highlights of Shaq Thompson in a Grant High School uniform. Just five years separate the razzle dazzle of Friday nights and the glitz and glamour of a chance at the Super Bowl.

He was drafted by the Carolina Panthers, and his team is one game away from the championship. His high school coach, the legendary Mike Alberghini, is watching the wild ride.

"His whole thing is he's always been able to set goals, and somehow always find the time to reach him," he said.

He has a collage of photos of Thompson, just one of his former players who have reached the pros.

"Everyone knew he was going to be special, but his specialness is how he lives his life," he said.

Sacramento State is also on Super Bowl watch. Linebacker Todd Davis who wore No. 53 for the Hornets now wears No. 51 for the Denver Broncos.

Sacramento State special teams coach Fred Kelley says Davis always stood out on the field.

"He's definitely a super tough guy, and he's gonna come in here and he definitely brings a presence right away," he said.
