Does Chip Kelly Not Want Colin Kaepernick?

Earlier this month the San Francisco 49ers hired Chip Kelly as their new head coach. Ever since then twitter and everything else has had an opinion about it. Not only that, but people have talked about the rebirth of Colin Kaepernick and all of the things that Kelly can do for him. Well, maybe that thought was premature.

On Wednesday Kelly was officially introduced to the bay area but refused to talk about his quarterback. He said he couldn't do it because of the collective bargaining agreement however, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that isn't true. Technically he can't talk with players until April but as long as the player is under contract with the 49ers he can talk about whoever he wants.

"I'm not allowed to comment about [Kaepernick] in terms of how he fits into any system because of the CBA rules of we're not allowed to discuss football, I'm not allowed to say who fits where and how they fit," Kelly said. "So I'm gonna wait until April 4 to discuss Kap and the offense."

The 49ers have until April 1st to decide if they want to guarantee Kaepernick's $11.9 million salary.

"I think statistics bear out that you probably need two good quarterbacks in this league with the injury rate quarterbacks have. I think both of those players make this an attractive situation."

Maybe this is all posturing for Kelly but one thing to remember with Kelly. Since Kelly has been in the NFL his quarterbacks have been Nick Foles and Sam Bradford. Those two quarterbacks combined have 107 yards rushing over the last two years with the Eagles with Bradford rushing for only 39 yards and Kelly chose Bradford.

There was also a report earlier that the 49ers chose Kelly over Mike Shanahan because of how high Kelly was on Kaepernick. All of this is up in the air and we're all speculating at this point but it's interesting to see how this unfolds over the next few months.
