Super Bowl Sustainability Program Giving Away Tickets To Big Game

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS13) — The Super Bowl host committee wants this year's event to be an environmentally sustainable one and they've launched a new program to help make their mission a success.

It's called the Play Your Part program, and its goal is getting football fans to make environmentally conscious decisions.

"When they they come to Super Bowl City. they're going to use public transportation," said Jason Trimeu, the vice president of community relations for the committee. "When they're in Super Bowl City, they're going to bring their refillable water bottles. When they have their parties, they're going to responsibly deal with their waste."

He helped launch the program earlier this month as a way to get fans involved in the committee's goal for Super Bowl 50 to be an environmentally sustainable event.

"You're going to go on the website, starting today, and pledge to take a sustainable action... playing your part to make Super Bowl 50 sustainable," he said.

After that, you'll receive 50 gold coins that you can give to one of several Northern California nonprofits. Those coins mean cash for the nonprofits.

"They'll actually be able to decide where up to $200,000 goes in terms of the Bay Area nonprofits we're working with," he said.

For making a pledge to make environmentally conscious decisions, participants will be entered into a contest to win tickets to Super Bowl 50.

"We actually have a number of days of prizes that build up starting on January 30, and then on February 4 we will announce our Super Bowl ticket winners," he said.
