Hate Message Directed At Muslims Found At Sac State

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Students at Sacramento State are angry and hurt by the hate message found near the University Union on Wednesday.

It was directed towards Muslims, but it is unclear what was written.

The chief of police at the university said no actual crime has occurred. He said the department will document the incident but it doesn't qualify as vandalism.

Thursday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced that the hate message was written on a sign-up sheet the Muslim Student Association left out on the quad.

One Muslim student at the college said she's never dealt with any discrimination at school, so it's tough to hear that hateful messages are being spread.

"Just being a part of the Muslim community and having to deal with that and having your other Muslim brothers and sisters deal with that, it's hard to deal with," Sobia Arshad said.

Robert S. Nelsen, the president of Sacramento State, released a statement saying in part: "We will not tolerate hateful and racist behavior on this campus, and we will pursue sanctions against those who are identified. We have a choice in how we treat each other, and every person on this campus deserves to be treated with dignity and respect."
