Job Fair Hopes To Fill 150 Downtown Sacramento Positions At Two Restaurants

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — More than 150 job openings are available for interviewees in Downtown Sacramento as two restaurants prepare to open near the Golden 1 Center.

Applicants like Keondra Brice are giving their best elevator pitch.

"I'm hoping to get a full-time job," Brice said. "I have experience with the cashier and I have my guard card so a security position."

They're hoping to make the cut and get on the payroll at the El Rey and Malt and Mash restaurants at 7th and K streets. Marketing director Elliott Ames says they're just a few weeks from opening.

"We're hoping to get a few hundred today and hoping to pick up steam over the next couple of days," he said.

They need everything from cooks to bartenders to security guards. The restaurants anticipates being overrun with new customers this summer and into the fall when the new home of the Sacramento Kings opens.

"The employment opportunity in downtown is just going to continue," said Michael Ault with teh Sacramento Downtown Partnership. "The good thing is some of the retailers are communicating to us that they're looking to extend their hours."

When extended, Ault says businesses will need to fill those late hours.

Brittany Brown says work is what she desperately needs for her family.

"For me it would be a really big thing because right now I'm out of the work force due to taking care of some grandparents," she said.

The hiring fair continues on Thursday at 10 a.m. at 1000 K Street.
