California Congressman Vapes During Hearing On Banning E-Cigs On Planes

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS13) - A California congressman's stunt may not have won over his colleagues, but it's blowing over the internet.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, a Republican congressman out of San Diego, spoke before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Thursday. In protest against a proposed federal ban on e-cigarettes on planes, Hunter decided to take out his vape.

Hunter then defended vapes, trying to convince people that they weren't a danger.

Judging by the reaction of his neighbor, who had to fan vapors away, the stunt didn't go over too well with his colleagues.

The committee later voted to approve the amendment, which could soon put in place a federal restriction on vaping in airplanes.

Most of the world's major airlines already have bans in place on vaping.

Hunter is a vocal supporter of e-cigs, even publishing an Op-Ed late last year in The Hill declaring "Yes, I vape."
