Man Arrested In Connection With Deadly Crash On Highway 99 In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The man accused of causing a crash that left one person dead, one injured, and several vehicles damaged has surrendered to authorities.

Rodney Trenell Thurman, 39, turned himself in at the Sacramento County District Attorney's office around 12:45 p.m. Monday, according to a CHP spokesperson.

The arrest stems from an incident this morning. Around 12:45 a.m. four people were traveling on southbound Highway 99 near 12th Avenue in a Buick sedan when a BMW X5 SUV driven by Thurman allegedly sideswiped the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, hit the guardrail, come back across several lanes of traffic and flip over, according to a statement from the CHP.

Four people were in the sedan at the time. A female was partially ejected from the sedan and died at the scene. Another female in the car suffered major injuries. Two other people in the car were uninjured.

Thurman reportedly stopped at the 12th Avenue onramp, got out of his SUV, and ran off.

He faces charges of felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
