4 Staffers At California State Prison-Sacramento Injured In Inmate Attack

FOLSOM (CBS13) - Authorities say a California State Prison-Sacramento inmate attacked four staff members Thursday morning.

The incident happened just after 7 a.m. According to the California Department of Corrections, inmate Tyrone E. Owens attacked two psychiatric technicians who were trying to give out medications. Owens is said to have pushed a cart into one technician hard enough to knock her to the floor.

Owens then started punching the other technician with both fists, CDCR says.

Two correctional officers were also injured while trying to restrain Owens. He was eventually subdued taken away.

An inmate-manufactured weapon was later found in Owens' cell, officials say.

Owens is serving time for second-degree robbery and grand theft convictions dating back to 2007. He was also convicted of having an inmate-manufactured weapon in 2010.

All four staffers who were injured were treated and released.

In a separate incident, CDCR confirms that an inmate stabbed another inmate around 1:30 p.m. Few other details about the incident have been released.
