CHP Officers Shoot At Man Who Allegedly Threatened Them With Knife
SACRAMENTO (CBS13/AP) – California Highway Patrol confirms they are investigating an officer-involved shooting in south Sacramento.
The shooting happened near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Highway 99.
CHP says two officers were clearing a homeless camp when a man, who appeared to be agitated, pulled out a knife and reportedly made threatening movements towards the officers. One officer shot the suspect with a taser and the other fired at their handgun. The man tried to run, but was hit again with the taser.
The man was taken to the hospital for treatment; and although he was medically cleared, is still being held by officers for questioning.
CHP officers assist Caltrans workers in removing homeless encampments from the side of roadways.
"Because it's illegal to camp along state thoroughfares, we do do a homeless camp removal detail…basically weekly," said CHP Officer Michael Bradley.
Bradley would not give the suspect's name, age or provide other details, citing the ongoing investigation.
No officers were injured in the incident.
