FAA Drone Registration Deadline Is Here

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Heads up current drone owners, Friday is the deadline to register your device with the feds.

A new law requires that drones weighing more than 0.55 pounds, but less than 55 pounds, need to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA says the process is simple and only costs $5. The registration is good for three years.

More than 342,000 people have already registered their drones, the FAA says.

Drone operators will need to have their registration with them when they fly or else they'll face steep fines and even jail time.
