Pursuit Suspect Shot To Death By Officer In Ripon

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story erroneously reported a CHP officer shot the suspect.

RIPON (CBS13) — A pursuit ended with an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead in San Joaquin County on Tuesday.

Investigators say an officer tried to pull over a vehicle at about 3:30 p.m., but the driver wouldn't stop.

A chase began and lead to the Jack Tone Road exit when the driver hit something in the roadway and the car rolled over. That's when investigators say shots were fired, hitting the suspect.

The California Highway Patrol says the suspect died on the way to the hospital. Manteca Police will take over the investigation of the shooting.

The accident backed traffic up all the way to Manteca and along Highway 120.
