No Charges Filed Against Dixon Teen Accused Of Sexual Assault On Campus

DIXON (CBS13) — Dixon Police arrested a 16-year-old in connection with an alleged sexual assault on campus, but CBS13 has learned the district attorney turned down the case.

Dixon Police say they believe the boy assaulted a student on school grounds during school hours. Parents say the district attorney may believe otherwise, but the news is still very unsettling.

The alleged assault happened on Monday between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Police call it an isolated case, but that offers little relief to Dorothy Sorensen. Her boys teach at Dixon, and her grandkids attend the school.

"It's hard to believe because usually Dixon's so good," she said.

Police won't say exactly where at the school the alleged incident happened or if anyone witnessed it.

"I can't imagine that going on during class and nobody knowing about it," said Shelley Butler.

She's upset the school didn't send out an alert notifying parents.

"I would think that we would have received—we get automated phone calls when issues happen," she said.

Parents were surprised to hear police arrested a 16-year-old boy. In a Facebook post late Wednesday, the district superintendent posted a message on Facebook cautioning people to refrain from passing judgment, saying, "Please consider how you would want this situation to be discussed or commented upon if it involved a teenager that you loved and cared about, and act accordingly. Our work with the Dixon Police will continue as the investigation into this incident moves forward."

Police told CBS13 that the district attorney rejected the case, though they didn't specify whether their investigation would continue.
