Questions Surround South Sacramento Shooting That Injured Toddler

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Questions are mounting in a South Sacramento neighborhood a day after detectives say a toddler shot herself in the head.

Sacramento County Sheriff's detectives say they haven't found the gun used in the shooting.

Investigators say the 2-year-old girl's mom was visiting a friend's house when someone found her little girl shot in the head in one of the bedrooms.

Crime-scene tape and gloves littered the house on Countryfield Drive, but a day after detectives found the girl the mystery is only deepening.

With no one at the house ready to talk, neighbors are getting more anxious. One neighbor who didn't want to show her face says the story doesn't add up.

"I just don't understand how a 2-year-old has access to a gun," she said. "Did the baby shoot herself or did she accidentally get shot?"

Detectives say they're putting the pieces together. They say the evidence, or lack thereof, combined with inconsistent testimony is enough to call the case suspicious, but not enough to press charges, yet.
