Man Shot, Killed During Alleged Break-In Near Santa Clarita
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a resident fatally shot a man allegedly trying to break into his apartment near Santa Clarita.
Deputy Lisa Jansen says the resident called authorities late Friday to report the break-in and subsequent shooting in the Canyon Country area.
Janson says several witnesses reported the suspect was trying to get into the apartment. She says the resident warned the man several times to leave and opened fire when he broke a window and started climbing inside.
The suspect, who was not identified, died at a hospital.
City News Service says the resident was detained at the Santa Clarita sheriff's station during the investigation. A handgun was taken into evidence.
