Neighbor Says Murder Victim Recently Took Suspect Into His Home

GRASS VALLEY (CBS13) — Investigators cleared the scene of a murder that came before a police pursuit through three counties on Sunday.

As forensics teams finished gathering clues neighbor Jesse McKenna said he was was the first on scene, describing desperate moments, hearing gunshots and a car speed off.

He ran to the house next door to find his friend William Tacket inside, on fire, later learning he'd also been shot.

He called 911 reporting The grisly scene.

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies arrested Jason Schuller after the overnight chase. His mugshot was released on Monday, but McKenna confirmed a photo from Facebook also shows Schuller.

He says his friend had taken Schuller in to his home but the pair recently had a dispute days before their alleged violent encounter.

McKenna also says he has surveillance video he says shows the suspect arrived at the home at 5 p.m., more than 4 hours before the gunshots.

Tuesday, detectives identified the victim as 67-year-old William Gary Tackett. The exact cause of his death is still under investigation.
