Davis High Student Recounts Chaotic Moments At Brussels Airport

DAVIS (CBS13) – A Davis High School student and his family were at the Brussels airport during the terror attacks on Monday.

Sophomore Mack Fee says he and his family were in a shuttle between terminals at the airport when the explosions happened.

"Some guy comes out and yelling 'evacuate, evacuate!' And so everyone starts pretty much running to the end of the terminal," Fee said.

Fee says they were stuck on the tarmac for hours.

"[They were] handing out water, blankets, and it seemed like we would be there for a while," Fee said.

Fee says thousands of people waited out on the tarmac.

"Then they put us on some buses and we took the buses into a hangar. They didn't really tell us where we were going … we just wanted to get away from the airport at that point," Fee said.

Later, Fee and his family were able to take a bus from an airplane hangar to a train station, and walked to a hotel where they are currently awaiting the reopening of the airport.

"I know this is such a rare occurrence," Fee said. "I mean, I know that we don't need to be freaked out about going out of the country and traveling."

Fee has heard some reports that it will be open by 12 p.m. Wednesday, and others that say it won't open again until Thursday.

His family was only supposed to be on a layover in Brussels. They plan to spend the rest of spring break as scheduled on their strip to Uganda.
