Man Fires 2 Shots Into Stockton Burger King Drive-Thru

STOCKTON (CBS13) — Stockton police search for a man who walked up to a fast food restaurant Monday morning and opened fire at the drive thru.

Police say the man was caught on video surveillance at 2 a.m. approaching the Pershing Avenue Burger King drive thru on foot, before pulling out a handgun. Two employees were sitting in the dining area and called 911.

"The employees were unharmed and it doesn't appear they were targeted in this shooting," said Joe Silva, spokesperson for Stockton Police.

Police say at least two shots were fired and one bullet lodged into the west wall.

"The video surveillance shows what appears to be a white man, wearing a black sweater, approach the drive thru of the Burger King raises his hand, and that's when the employees heard the gunshots," said Silva.

The bizarre shooting happened as police on Monday released the quarterly crime report showing an increase in violent crime from last year.

Stockton police say robbery has increase from 174 in February 2015 to 203 in February 2016.

Aggrevated assault also jumped from 435 to 503, and the total number of violent crimes from 2015 to February 2016 increased from 625 to 728.

Stockton shoppers in the plaza Monday afternoon said they were not surprised Stockton continues to struggle with violent crime.

"I grew up in the south side and there's a lot of crazy things over there. What I do is just stay home, stay inside," said Chris Sugabo.
