Police Shoot Concord Shooting Suspect At Fairfield Lowe's
FAIRFIELD (CBS13) — A suspect wanted for the shooting of an 8-year-old boy in Concord is in custody after he was shot by police at a Fairfield Lowe's.
The weekend manhunt for James Jarrard, who is accused of shooting the boy in a drive-by, ended on Monday.
"I saw the police running toward someone I thought it was dangerous so I went back inside because I didn't want to be harmed or shot," said Ramzy Eid.
Investigators say they were chasing the 32-year-old after getting a much-needed tip. A concerned citizen spotted the suspect from news reports and followed him to the Lowe's parkign lot on Monday where police came face-to-face with Jarrard.
"It's fantastic," said Lt. Rob Lenke. "It just shows you the power watching TV, watching social media, and keeping a close eye. Here we have a citizen that goes out of his way to contact us, reporting this and it turned out to be the right guy."
Jarrard didn't surrender, and police say an officer shot him. They wouldn't release any details into why the officer fired, but Jarrard was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition.
The boy is expected to survive Friday's shooting.
