WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- West Sacramento Police responded Saturday Evening just before 10 PM to reports of a Male Adult Pedestrian who was trespassing on the railroad tracks near the Harbor Boulevard Over-crossing and was struck.

Sgt. Roger Kinney from West Sacramento Police Department says the male was walking on the tracks when he was hit by the Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train headed to the Bay Area.  The victim suffered fatal injuries and the Amtrak Engineer immediately initiated an emergency stop.  The engineer is cooperating with authorities who have not released any other details.

Trains in the area were delayed several hours while authorities investigated the incident.

Sgt. Roger Kinney said walking on train tracks isn't just dangerous, "It's also trespassing and illegal."
