Dignity Health Beefs Up Security After Alleged Threats By Doctor

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Some Sacramento hospitals are adding extra security for their staff after officials said a doctor made credible threats to Dignity Health staff members and leadership Wednesday.

UPDATE: Doctor Speaks Out Against Dignity Health Accusations

According to Dignity Health, Dr. Martin Straznicky is a person of interest to the FBI for what they call credible threats to staff and leadership.

"It is difficult to hear about it," said Eliza Calub who is a registered nurse at Mercy San Juan.

She can't imagine someone on their staff making a threat and said its concerning.

"It does and it should not be. We only have one goal for nurses and doctors to care for patients," said Calub.

The hospital released this statement:

"Dignity Health has been made aware of a potential threat to our hospitals, and out of an abundance of caution, we have staffed up security at all our local hospital facilities." -Dignity Health

That security was visible at Mercy San Juan during the evening hours Wednesday.

Investigators have not released what kind of threat Dr. Straznicky allegedly made. They only confirmed he is a physician with Dignity Health in the anesthesiology department.

Officials warn staff to be on the lookout for Dr. Straznicky and to report anything suspicious.  We made calls to the FBI and a spokesperson would not confirm or deny any information and referred us to Dignity Health. We also called Sacramento Police Department and were told it is aware of the situation.
