Construction Constricting Lanes Heading To Sacramento International Airport

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Watch out for construction delays on Interstate 5. The main issue will be for those heading North at night. There will be backups, so you'll want to be prepared.

Starting at 7 p.m. each night until 5 a.m., I-5 North leading to the airport will go down to one lane and at 9 p.m. For the next three nights, the Airport Boulevard off-ramp will close until 4 a.m.

Those who didn't plan on the delays might be scrambling to catch their flights.

"Unless they can think into the future, I think they're just going to be trapped. I think if they know about the delay they should give themselves an extra half hour to 45 minutes," said Mark Habib while filling up at the gas station.

Caltrans suggests you plan an extra 35 minutes of traffic to catch your flight. Bottom line, if you're heading north on I-5 between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m. through Thursday, the freeway exit to the airport will be closed. You'll have to go to the next exit, do a U-turn, and get off at the southbound airport exit.
