Police: Man Drove Drunk To Report Crash Days After It Happened

CORTE MADERA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Northern California man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he drove to the California Highway Patrol office in Marin County to report a crash he had been involved in over the weekend.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/20VNKi4) 44-year-old Donald Gendron was waiting in the lobby Tuesday when several officers noticed a strong alcohol smell. When Gendron told an officer about the crash over the weekend, the officer realized it was him who smelled of alcohol.

The CHP says in a statement Gendron's eyes were red and watery.

Gendron told officers he had driven himself to the CHP office in Corte Madera. He was booked into Marin County jail after failing a sobriety test.
