Will C Wood High Prom Tickets Sell Out, But There's Still Hope

VACAVILLE (CBS13) — There are concerns high-school students may not be going to senior prom next month after a lack of tickets.

Seniors had a week to buy prom tickets, and when they weren't selling out, the school let juniors buy them. Now some seniors are having a change of heart.

Carina James is frustrated her daughter might not experience the rite-of-passage many high-schoolers experience.

"These kids work hard, some work hard to get their dresses and tuxedos, and you tell them they can't go?" she said. "Actually had the windows shut in front of them 5 mins before lunch was over."

That was last week when senior prom tickets went on sale and quickly sold out. James got up at the break of dawn to bring her daughter and sister to Will C Wood High School, just so they can get on the waitlist for prom tickets.

"They should have accommodated how many students times two. Now someone these kids can't even bring dates," she said.

Jennifer Leonard says the high-school prom committee budgeted for 300 tickets last year, the same number of people the venue in Napa could accommodate.

"We reached capacity in one week, and for the past 5 years, we have been struggling to reach capacity," she said. "When we had more students, they were willing to accommodate us twice, so now we are over the 375 range."

High school seniors essentially waited until the last minute to buy their tickets after the prom committee went to great lengths to tell them last week was senior priority week.

"We put posters all around the school, emailed students, sent out flyers," she said.

Leonard says high-school seniors can still have their dream prom night. The Marriott Hotel in Napa, the venue for this year's senior prom, is once again willing to accommodate the class of 2016.

Prom tickets are officially sold out, but we're told everyone who wants to go is getting the chance to live that fairy tale prom night.

But Leonard says the advice for next time is don't wait.
