Couple Arrested After Buying Couch With Fraudulent Check

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - A Sacramento couple was arrested after police say they used a fraudulent check to buy a couch.

The incident dates back to March. Police say the couple, 28-year-old Trevor Lichnock-Gembe and 29-year-old Shellby Leeann Moore, bought a large sectional couch from a furniture store in Roseville and used a check to pay for it.

A few days later, the bank alerted the retailer that the check was fraudulent.

The retailer tried numerous times to collect a legitimate payment, but soon called the Roseville Police Department.

Detectives discovered that not only was the check a fraud, but also that the suspects stole someone's identity to buy the couch.

Officers paid a visit to the couple's Sacramento apartment along Old Placerville Road on Wednesday and conducted a probation search. Stolen mail, forged identification, forged checks and stolen property were discovered in the apartment, police say.

Lichnock-Gembe and Moore were arrested and booked at Placer County Jail. US Postal Inspectors are also investigating the couple's possible involvement in mail thefts in Sacramento County.

The couch was recovered and returned to the Roseville store, police say.
