Donald Trump's California Campaign HQ Opens Soon In Natomas

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is coming to California.

Trump will open his Sacramento headquarters this week - and the nerve-center for his statewide campaign will be in Natomas.

Trump's campaign director, Tim Clark, says based on the delegate count this year, California could play a pivotal role in determining who becomes the Republican and Democratic nominee.

"We have a very strong volunteer base in Sacramento," Clark said, and that's why he says Trump picked Sacramento for his campaign hub because of its political connections and growth. "We're going to walk precincts Republicans haven't walked in decades."

Clark says Trump's biggest focus is to grow the California economy.  "Without the Bay Area, California's economy is at recession levels, and Trump wants to help grow the economy."

But Trump arrives in California with plenty of opposition inside the Republican Party. Tea Party Express founder Sal Russo has yet to announce support for any candidate.  "It's going to be a serious vote, you can't just go and say I'm madder than heck, I'm gonna vote for this --you have to say this vote might actually be the next president."

Russo is critical of Trump's timing and accuses Trump's campaign of not being organized.

But Clark says voters in Sacramento can expect to see a lot more of the candidate who has already dominated national attention.
