Hundreds Honor Fallen California Officers In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Hundreds of officers were at the California Capitol on Monday to remember officers who were lost in the past year.

Since the event honored officers who passed away in 2015, California Highway Patrol officer Nathan Taylor was not included this year. The CHP officer was struck and killed by a driver near Truckee in March while helping with road controls during a storm.

A sea of motorcycle officers carpeted the street in front of the west steps of the Capitol as ceremonial bagpipes tugged at the heartstrings.

The California Peace Officers Memorial has honored those killed protecting the communities they serve for the 40 years.

"This is our one day that we can come out and remember those that have died and lost their lives in the line of duty," said San Mateo Police Sgt. Jennifer Maravillas.
