New Placer County SPCA Building Just $100,000 Away From Reality

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — It's been a long overdue move for one of the largest SPCA facilities in the region, and we have an update on the Placer County building.

The old building in Roseville is as tired-looking as an older dog that just ran a mile. The kennels are rusty, office space is skimpy and the roof leaks.

But as the water drips, the optimism flows from CEO Leilani Fratis.

DONATE: Help the Placer County SPCA.

"The day that new facility opens--it's hard for me to even imagine--it's gonna be a day that I've been working toward for 15 years," Fratis said.

It doesn't look like much now, but when the new facility takes over the old Roseville telephone building, it will be double the size of the current animal shelter.

The extra cash for the extra space comes from the City of Roseville which agreed to put in $7.6 million along with Placer SPCA's contribution of $4.4 million. The $12 million needed for Phase 1 has them within $100,000 of being able to break ground on more than just an adoption center.

It'll be a state-of-the-art community and education meeting place, a park-like setting in a residential area. But don't worry neighbors, the walls will be soundproof.

The second phase will include a new veterinary clinic, giving new life to an old building, and a better chance at finding a better life.
