Elk Grove Boulevard Closure Hitting Old Town Businesses

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — A major roadway shutdown in Elk Grove could affect your driving in the coming days as railroad tracks are repaired.

Elk Grove Boulevard between First and School streets will be closed until Friday as Union Pacific fixes its railroad tracks in Old Town.

The area known for a narrow, two-lane Elk Grove Boulevard and limited sidewalks and parking is getting squeezed even more. Drivers are being forced to find detours while some business owners are hard-pressed to bring in even loyal customers.

Historically, Old Town business owners have struggled to lure new customers, and the closure isn't helping.

"We fight everyday for customers the way parking is in old town and the way they structured the street to barely any parking on the street," said Kasha Arno

Right in the middle of the dust, noise and negativity us Dave's Barbershop.

"It's the first time they've shut down the street for this many days and I'm not exactly sure how the business is going to go," he said.

It's the price of doing business in the tight, Old Town spaces, he says.

"All the businesses are like small, family-type businesses so we all talk to each other and we all knew it was coming up," he said.

The road is expected to reopen by this Friday.
