River City Brewing Finding Success In Carmichael After Leaving Downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — New beginnings are creating new problems for an old establishment that moved out ahead of the Sacramento Kings arena opening.

The owners of River City Brewing Company, a Downtown Sacramento staple for more than 20 years, say they were pushed out when the Golden 1 Center moved in.

When they moved to Carmichael on Fair Oaks Boulevard, they weren't sure what was going to happen until they opened to the public on Monday. They got so much business, they ran out of food.

Co-owner Beth Ayers-Biro says the new location is a better deal than what was handed to them more than a year ago. That's when she says city leaders promised they would be able to keep their original spot near the Golden 1 Center, but their lease was not renewed after 23 years in business.

Now, after teaming up with several eateries at the Milagro Center in Carmichael, business is a little too good. It started on Monday evening when they were flooded with customers and had to turn people away.

"It was so crowded that people had to wait two hours to get seated," said employee Orcun Usammez.

Ayers-Biro says time and cash heals all wounds.

"We're actually going to be in the green sooner than if we would have stayed downtown," she said.
