Family In Shock After Missing Man, Baby Found Dead In Slough

WALNUT GROVE (CBS 13) – After two bodies were pulled from the Georgiana Slough over the weekend, a Sacramento family is left wondering what happened to their loved ones.

Kyler Jackson, 23, and his 1-year-old daughter Kaylee Jackson were on their way to Sacramento from Antioch on May 22. That's the last time Kyler's family saw him alive.

"He would have taken [Highway] 160 on his way home but even this route here, he would not have been on this road," said Karla Jackson, Kyler's mother. "Not after a year and a half would he have all of a sudden made a right turn instead of a left at the walnut grove bridge. He would not have done that."

Sacramento DART team and Marine Enforcement recovered Jackson's silver Ford Taurus from the slough on Sunday night, seven days after his family last saw him. People that live in the Walnut Grove area told CBS13 that this isn't the first time they've heard of a car going into the water.

"There are always ambulances and fire trucks along here and I'm sure it's a lot of cars going into this river," said Patty Spalliero, who often spends time boating on the Sacramento River. "There's a 35 mile an hour speed limit, and people go anywhere like 60. It's a horrible road."

Winding along the banks of the Sacramento River, many of the roads are just feet from the water. Brook Weir has been driving on the roads near the Sacramento River for more than 50 years and says an accidental slide into the slough is unlikely.

"There is no spot on this river that I've ever had to worry about 'Oh my God, I'm going into the water,'" he said. "You wouldn't go into the river, you'd just go off the road, 'cause it's so sharp."

Kyler's body was found two miles south of where the car was found. The body of 1-year-old Kaylee Jackson was found another 5 miles south of where her father's body was found.

"It still does not answer how he got where he was," Jackson said. "It still does not answer how his car got into the river."

California Highway Patrol is investigating what led the car to end up in the water. The case started as a missing person's case with Antioch Police Department, so if there is an investigation behind Kyler Jackson's disappearance, Antioch PD will take the lead.
