Man Busted With Child Porn Claims He's On Crusade To Shut It Down

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A man caught with child pornography says he's helping catch the real criminals, but investigators say he's actually blackmailing kids to give him more disturbing pictures.

In a CBS13 jailhouse interview, Jarek Weber, 20, admitted obtaining thousands of images of child pornography, but he's justifying by saying he's a freedom fighter working for the group Anonymous.

"We're smarter and we will catch them all," he said.

He calls himself an advocate for justice and all things good who has downloaded thousands of child porn images to give to the renegade group Anonymous in hopes of shutting down the inappropriate sites.

"I'm just tired of the corruption. I'm tired justice not getting its day," he said.

But Sacramento County investigators call him a common criminal and pedophile. He's accused of obtaining more than 4,000 images and videos of kids involved in disturbing sexual acts. Undercover investigators say some of the children are girls under the age of 12.

Officers say after Weber wins his victims' online confidence, he convinces them to send him explicit pictures of themselves. Afterward, he threatens to post those photos if they don't send more.

Investigators say they've already identified a half-dozen local kids in what police say are thousands of pictures and videos.

We asked Weber about the accusations of him being a pedophile, and how the public could be sure he wasn't one.

"No," he said. "It's my word against theirs and that's all there really is."
