Couple Saved From Burning Mobile Home In Lincoln

LINCOLN (CBS13) – Alert neighbors rescued an elderly couple from a blaze that destroyed a mobile home early Thursday morning.

The scene is near the intersection of North O and 1st Streets.

According to neighbors, two elderly people were stuck inside the mobile home when the flames started. One family sprang into action.

"My uncle, thank God, is a light sleeper," said neighbor Angela Newell. "He came down and got us and he grabbed our hose and started keeping the flames down so my husband could get to [the mobile home]."

Newell says her husband tried to get an elderly to come out, but the man was worried about his wife still stuck inside.

"So my uncle kept spraying to keep the flames down, while my husband was able to break the window of the door and reach in and grab and pull [the woman] through," Newell said.

The couple and Newell's husband have been transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

Fire crews put out the flames but the home looks to be a loss.
