Brexit Leaves Uncertainty In Sacramento Area Market

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — An historic vote by Britain to leave the European Union is being felt in Northern California.

Global markets are in chaos, as the pound plunges to its lowest level since 1985.

The U.S. stock market suffered its worst drop in ten months.

The president of Harris and Bruno International in Roseville says he's been doing business with the UK since the 1990s, but now he's not sure how the decision will affect his business relationship in Europe.

Harris and Bruno International is a manufacturing facility that builds and distributes printing machines all over the world.

But it's all the noise from the UK that's causing the real commotion inside the facility.

Nick Bruno, President of Harris and Bruno International says "the UK pulling out of the European Union doesn't mean we will also pull out of business."

Bruno's father started the company in 1948, and now global exports make up 70-percent of business.

"Our equipment is sold around Europe and in the UK -- the UK has a good economy for the printing industry", Bruno adds.

But Bruno says he's not worried about the short-term effects of the UK's decision to pull out of the European Union -- he says it's the long-term impact on the printing manufacturer that's still a mystery.

"There's no clear outcome right now, we don't know what it means to us."

The president of the World Trade Center in Northern California says he believes businesses around the U.S. and the UK will rebound.

He adds the U.S. will adjust to new policies and procedures after the split, which will create new opportunities.

The president also says businesses in Northern California will continue to be an asset to the European market.
