Three Killed as Boat Capsizes off Catalina Island

AVALON, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a boat has capsized off Catalina Island, killing three people.

Four other people survived and were rescued but there's no immediate word on their conditions.

The 15-foot skiff overturned around 9:30 a.m. Saturday near Salta Verde Point on the backside of the island, located off the Southern California coast.

Spencer Parker of the Los Angeles County Fire Department's lifeguard division says the boat was struck by a wave.
