Marysville Could Be Next Stop For Sexually Violent Predator Fraisure Smith

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — A sexually violent predator could soon be living in Marysville, and the Yuba County Sheriff's Department says it doesn't want him.

Authorities have been looking for a home for Fraisure Smith since late 2013 when his lawyer says his client had a conditional release with strict conditions that included GPS monitoring. But state laws dictating where sex offenders can live in relation to schools and parks have stretched the process to nearly three years.

Smith pleaded no contest to a charge of sexual assault with the intent to commit rape in 2006.

In March of 2015, neighbors in an upscale Fairfield neighborhood protested him moving into a four-bedroom, three-bathroom house with a fire pit and a pool. That house would have rented at about $3,000 a month, paid by taxpayers.

Protests and delays in the court system scuttled that plan and Smith was quietly released as a transient in November, meaning he'd be moving to different motels while under surveillance conditions. He was also subjected to GPS tracking, specialized sex-offender treatment, weekly drug screening, polygraph exams and 24-7 security.

A state contractor who police say didn't disclose Smith's identity placed him in a Vallejo Motel 6, but they were evicted shortly thereafter. Workers at the Dixon Motel say the same thing happened to them days later.
