Outdoor Sprinklers Help Limit Damage From Locke Fire

LOCKE (CBS13) — A fire that tore through a home in the historic Delta community of Locke this weekend is under investigation and the community is coming together to help those who lost everything.

Cellphone video shows the flames shooting out of the balcony of the old building. The person shooting the video prayed the fire didn't spread.

Everyone inside escaped and no one was injured. Two upstairs units were destroyed, but the fire left the rest of the century-old community untouched.

Firefighters arrived fast and had help from the pink pipes that run along the century-old historic wooden buildings. They feed an outdoor sprinkler system that worked and saved the town.

The tiny Delta community was founded by Chinese laborers in 1915 is designated a national landmark.

A small concert was held on Monday night to raise money for the families who lost everything in the fire.

The owner says he plans to rebuild.
