Woodland Residents On Edge After Two Unsolved Murders

WOODLAND (CBS13) — Neighbors in Woodland are on edge after two unsolved murders in just three days.

Police say both shootings took place just blocks from where city leaders are hoping to attract new tourist dollars. The latest shooting occurred near Oak Avenue and College Street.

Neighbors say it's a peaceful neighborhood, until the sun goes down.

Police say gang activity was likely behind the first murder on Community Lane on June 29. A man was shot multiple times and died at a local hospital. No arrests have been made in that case.

Several days later, another unsolved murder started with an argument and ended with gunfire. Police say it, too, may have been gang-related.

Both crimes are just blocks away from downtown's Main Street, where new businesses are emerging, from restaurants to retail to entertainment.

The sudden burst of crime has locals worried.

"There are times I'm looking over my shoulder because you never know what could happen," said Onaria Perez.

But Police say there's no need to worry because the incidents were directed at specific people.

"I think overall our community is very a safe community and our department works very hard to keep it that way," said Sgt. Brett Hancock.
