Memorial Marks Anniversary Of Family's Tragic Murders In Modesto

MODESTO (CBS13) - A year has passed and still emotions are raw in the slaying of a local doctor and her children.

"Today's the anniversary of the day I lost you and for a time I had felt that my life had ended too," said Kim Crews at a vigil to honor her twin sister.

"We want people to remember her. We want people to remember Elizabeth, Rachel, Christopher. We want them to be remembered by everybody, not just people suffering from the loss," said Alexander McLeod, a friend of the family.

The horrific nightmare began last July 18.

Dr. Amanda Crews was found dead in their home on Knob Hill along with two kids, ages six years old and six months old. Police said Amanda's boyfriend, Martin Martinez is their killer. He's also accused of murdering his own mother and niece.

The murders are so gruesome and pain so deep. Her twin sister, Kim, is pained to be without her family members.

"What we shared will never die and lives within my heart bringing strength and comfort while we are apart," Kim said.

Kim played Amanda's favorite music and friends shared their fondest memories. They say they'll continue to do to keep her spirit alive. They're also fighting for justice, making sure each one of them is never forgotten.

"We want the person that did this to be held accountable for causing this much damage. This unnecessary harm, terror to people," said McLeod.

In a separate case, Martinez is also charged with murder of Crews' 2-year-old son in October, 2014.

Martinez will be in court on August 8 and is tentatively scheduled to have a trial date set.

Martinez is facing the death penalty.
