Report: Davis Daycare Where Alleged Molestation Happened Has History Of Violations

DAVIS (CBS13) -- Ximena's Daycare in Davis remains open after one of the owners was put behind bars last week for allegedly molesting a four-year-old child.

Forty-three-year-old Eduardo Alejandro Letelier faces multiple charges for molesting a child under the age of 10. According to the State's Community Childcare Licensing Division, because Letelier is in jail, there's no immediate threat to the children in the daycare.

If Letelier is released, officials say they can shut the daycare down. Davis Deputy Police Chief David Delaini says the police department took swift action because there may be additional victims who have been molested in the past at the daycare.

In addition to a criminal investigation by Davis police, the State's Childcare Licensing Division is also conducting its own investigation. On Monday, CBS13 obtained a copy of an evaluation report by the licensing division. In 2007, the agency found several violations at the daycare, including an excessive number of infants below the age of two, and a weapon inside one of the rooms.

"I've never even heard of that daycare because I was looking for my grandchildren", said Inez Villanueva, who volunteers at her grandchildrens' daycare in Davis.

Villanueva says she won't let anyone who isn't family watch over them because of incidents like the one involving Letelier.

Elise O'Bailey says, "I spent a lot of time in daycare as a kid because my parents both worked late."

O'Bailey says the allegations hit too close to home. She's grateful for having a normal childhood but says she can only imagine what the victim's family is going through.

"They need justice, that's the only way they can move on," she said.

Letelier is still at the Yolo County Jail on $1 million bail. He is expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the Yolo County Superior Court.
