Police: Girl Found Dead In Rocklin, Juvenile Suspect In Custody

ROCKLIN (CBS13) - A Rocklin mother called police after she found her 13-year-old daughter's body inside her bedroom.

Police picked up her 14-year-old brother about 45 minutes after the call to 911 was made at 10:47 a.m.

The homicide happened in the 6700 block of Monument Springs Dr.

"it's so sad, said Mary Alvarez, "I'm in shock."

Neighbors say the area is quiet and never has any problems.

"[I'm] kind of shocked and surprised," said Dan Chiesa, "our thoughts and prayers go out to the family."

Police say the mother called 911 when she got home and found the body.

"She had suffered some blunt force trauma," said Capt. Lon Milka with the Rocklin Police Department.

A 13-year-old girl is dead, and her relative, a boy, 14, is the main suspect. He ran away shortly after the police were called.

"It took about 30-35 minutes after we set up a perimeter with the help of Roseville P.D. to actually find the suspect," said Milka.

The Department of Justice helping with evidence recovery. Police say their presence is to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

A likely reason, neighbors say the home is owned by Jeffrey Ronald Wood and his wife. There is also a Jeffrey Wood who works in the placer county district attorney's office. We called the office and they said: "We are aware of the case and will not be issuing a comment at this time."

The FBI is also providing a specialized piece of equipment that captures 3D images.

This is the first homicide in Rocklin since 2013.
